As promised yesterday, I am on my way out the door to find manufacturers for my products. I am headed to Walmart, amongst other places. Since my ideas are largely automobile related, I am also going to a couple of auto-parts stores and the car-wash!
(Truth serum hits and she says, “Honestly, I’ve done this already. Months ago. But I cannot find the list so I have to go out and do it again!)
Once there, I will find products that are closely related to mine in construction and potentially style. I will find the manufacturers names and hopefully contact information. Then when I return, I will put this data into a spreadsheet, and without further ado start to contact them. I will keep notes on who I spoke to, and on what date, and when I am supposed to meet with who and where. This will make it easy to refer back to when I am negotiating the sales and licensing agreements.
Once I get them on the phone, I will confirm the methods of getting my ideas into their hands, whether they would prefer to buy the idea outright or if they would rather license it. This will dictate whether I create a proto-type, or just a sketch. If the majority of the manufacturers prefer licensing, I will create the prototype, then get in front of the decision makers.
This is the plan. I will update it as I go along. I’ll update the blog as things progress, as well. It may be a day or two before I have any activity other than what I have listed here, so I may blog on some other topics while I am waiting for forward movement.
This is exciting! Are you coming with me?
So, this is where you are:
- Give God the Glory!
- Confess you are an inventor!
- Write down your ideas and mail them to yourself!
- Go Shopping! Confirm your idea is marketable!
- Make the decision, to sell the idea, license, or become the manufacturer
- Find the manufacturers to contact
