The Blessing, The Spreadsheet and those First Few Contacts

Have you told anyone yet?  Have you divulged your secrets?  Have you taken the plunge and told anyone that you are working on your witty inventions, brilliant ideas, secret sauce?

whisperI did!  I told my brother.  He was so blessed and encouraged.  That is yet another unforeseen component of this inventions project.  I never thought about blessing other people and encouraging them just by bringing them up to date!  You should try it!  Tell someone what you are doing and lean back and enjoy the response!

That is….IF they are an inventor at heart.  My Mother just kind of looked at me funny.

I was catching up with my brother via email, and decided to give him both my Facebook and my Blog address.  He was really excited, and it got him stirred up too!  Come to find out, he’s got some inventions already in his head, some that he has written down, but some not.  He backed up our plan to write it all down (and mail it to ourselves) with Habakkuk 2:2 in the King James Bible  ‘And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.’

“To be quite frank,” he continued, “it [the blog] was very enlightening. I liked it! Yes, I mentioned earlier that I didn’t have any inventions I was working on presently. But as I continued to read, I realized I was working on a number of inventions already…actually have been over the years. Mostly Green related. I’ve written business proposals on most of them and already done the market research and such. So, to say I was intrigued, would be an understatement. Liked your notes on writing it all down and mailing it to yourself. Good idea!  So I write down most (not all :/ ) of the witty ideas and inventions God shows me. But have never mailed them to myself. I need to start. Thanks. I did save your notes, because they are a confirmation and an answer to prayer. Really. Thanks for your faithfulness in writing those notes. What a blessing.”

So, that’s the good news, we’re blessing people without even realizing it!  That ought to give you warm and fuzzies!

The not-so-good news is that I am still in the spreadsheet process.  I have contacted three manufacturer/distributors, and only gotten through to the receptionist so far with one.  I was able to both leave a voicemail and send an email to the Vice-President of one company, my first call (!) so that was exciting.  Two other companies I have only sent an inquiry email, and another one I had to leave a voicemail with the (operator).  Sigh.

I knew a man who had invented some software ideas to plug into laptops and notepads.  It was a great idea, a wonderful marketing tool for marketers.  He got derailed trying to get his computers (laptops and notepads) from China.  It takes a long time to get stuff ordered and shipped, and costs LOTS of money.

That is why we are opting for licensing and our intent is to leave the manufacturing process to those who have the time and money to do it.  However… I am contemplating hanging onto one of my products and even if I outsource the production of it, it would be a tremendous way to travel the country (dare I say the WORLD!) and market it at shows and conventions.  I MIGHT, but I am not sure.  The reason this is even pertinent is because it seems that most of the items in this line of accessories that I am trying to invent are made in China.  The bulk of my “manufacturers” are truly importers and distributors…marketers.  So, I will truly be selling an IDEA, not the actual product or the manufacturing of it, but rather the re-sale of it.

However, I’m moving forward!  I am pursuing the dream!  I am pursuing witty inventions.  I know that With God, ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!!  All it takes is one blessing from the Lord, which will maketh one (THIS ONE!) truly rich, and He adds no sorrow with it!  I am sooooooo ready for that blessing, that the Lord will CAUSE the blessing to come upon me and my household.   Lord bless the work of my hands!

So, what would you have done differently?  Please take the poll and let me know!

Free Advice from a TRUE INVENTOR with a patent!!

WOW!  This will bless you!  Free Advice from a true inventor who holds a patent! My lifelong friend, spiritual mother and INVENTOR mentor — with a patent to her credit! —  Gail Falzon, has agreed to allow me to post her comment from the third post in this series, “Moving Forward”.

I believe you will find  it informative, and extremely helpful in your quest to get your inventions and ideas into the marketplace!

Not only that, Gail has become a national speaker for the very company that bought her idea and manufactured it!  So, this is an exciting development in our thought process.  You could become the spokesperson for the company that buys your ideas!   She says they pay her expenses to send her out to speak!

BRILLIANT!!

Please comment here, this is too awesome!

Thank you Gail!  I love you, my friend!  Blessings on your head!

More about Gail:  www.TMJPainSolutions.com Search on Facebook, too!

Gail.FalzonHaving licensed several products and starting one idea totally from scratch, my vote is to license! I have the grit and determination to make things happen, but that whole business from A-Z is WAY more than I bargained for. Praise God that I was able to sell it at a later date and still get paid to travel and teach. Now they do the work and I get royalty. No…its not as much as I would have gotten myself, but there comes a point when your mental health and well-being out-weighs monetary gain.
Another word of advice. Standard royalty is usually 5% of “retail” but some will only give you 2% if you have not at least filed a provisional patent. Buy the book entitled, “Patent it Yourself”. I was able to patent my first invention by myself-no attorney-and it passed. This saved me a ton of money. The company I approached liked the idea so much, they made the tooling mold for me at no cost so they could run with it. Unfortunately, they opted to veer from my market and left me with the tooling. I found a suitable company in this market who took the idea. BUT…because I OWN the tooling, my royalty is 15%. So…never feel you can’t negotiate.
One product needed no patent as there were just too many ways to change it up. Funny that this one is the most profitable!
The lucky ones who come up with a MASS market idea are the ones who will get rich “IF” they play their cards right. Is it QVC material, infomercial material? Knowing your market is crucial!! Then…look for the best in the business, and go find them!

In addition to the non-disclosure, I had the president initial each of the drawings I presented. He loved the one, I made two prototypes…and soon…money in the mail!
WARNING…inventing is addictive once you’ve figured it out. Best of luck!

Witty Inventions 4 – Momentum

Start thinking of your vanity license plate now!
It should say TXINVNTR!

As promised yesterday, I am on my way out the door to find manufacturers for my products.  I am headed to Walmart, amongst other places.  Since my ideas are largely automobile related, I am also going to a couple of auto-parts stores and the car-wash!

(Truth serum hits and she says, “Honestly, I’ve done this already. Months ago.  But I cannot find the list so I have to go out and do it again!)

Once there, I will find products that are closely related to mine in construction and potentially style.  I will find the manufacturers names and hopefully contact information.  Then when I return, I will put this data into a spreadsheet, and without further ado start to contact them.  I will keep notes on who I spoke to, and on what date, and when I am supposed to meet with who and where.  This will make it easy to refer back to when I am negotiating the sales and licensing agreements.

Once I get them on the phone, I will confirm the methods of getting my ideas into their hands, whether they would prefer to buy the idea outright or if they would rather license it.  This will dictate whether I create a proto-type, or just a sketch.  If the majority of the manufacturers prefer licensing, I will create the prototype, then get in front of the decision makers.

This is the plan.  I will update it as I go along.  I’ll update the blog as things progress, as well.  It may be a day or two before I have any activity other than what I have listed here, so I may blog on some other topics while I am waiting for forward movement.

This is exciting!  Are you coming with me?

So, this is where you are:

  • Give God the Glory!
  • Confess you are an inventor!
  • Write down your ideas and mail them to yourself!
  • Go Shopping!  Confirm your idea is marketable!
  • Make the decision, to sell the idea, license, or become the manufacturer
  • Find the manufacturers to contact

Witty Inventions Part 3. The Process – Moving Forward!

hand-on-chin

I have received two prophetic words today from friends of mine, completely unsolicited.  The first was “Sometimes you just have to make your prophetic words come true!” and the second was, “Victory is YOURS!”

I also heard directly from the Lord today, when He said, “When are  you going to realize you hear Me?”

This gave me the courage to take the next step, which we will be doing together.  This is the last post in this series before I have to do this process WITH you!  I’ve already done some of the other steps weeks and months ago, and the next step we will take together!

For me, this is where it TRULY gets interactive.

That is why I decided to write the blog.  So I would have the crucial PUSH I needed to take the plunge.  I hope you are doing this with me!  That was the idea, to have others to encourage me and that I could encourage also…. plus add comments along the way.

Ready?  JUST DO IT!!

The next step, after you have written down your ideas and mailed them to yourself, and gone looking at the local store to see if your idea is marketable, is to actually make a decision –

  1. Do I sell the idea or
  2. Do I produce and market the item?

You can find a manufacturer who already makes something similar or along the same lines as what you have invented.  You may wish to contact them, set up a meeting, and propose they buy the idea from you outright.  In order for them to “grasp” your concept or idea, and to excite them enough to buy it, you will want to sketch out your idea.  Better yet, design and build a prototype to demonstrate the idea to the manufacturer.  However if that is not feasible, you can simply draw a picture of the finished item.  Depending on the complexity, you may need to include a diagram or schematic of how to construct it.

By the way, this is how you apply for a patent, as well.  That’s another whole elephant that we don’t have time to eat here.

Once you find a manufacturer, contact them, and schedule a meeting with the highest up person in that organization’s hierarchy that you can.  Have a non-compete, non-disclose contract at the ready, preferably one constructed by an attorney.  The manufacturer MUST sign this document before you disclose your invention.  Then you negotiate the terms of your sale, and — VOILA!!  Victory is YOURS!

Rinse and Repeat.

My friend the inventor swears that you should just sell the idea and take 5% of all retail sales.  This is called “licensing”.  This is what she has done with all her products, and her monthly royalty checks just keep getting bigger and bigger.  She likes the idea of “mailbox money” and frankly, so do I.  I want to spend my time doing other things rather than trying to sell my products.  So, when given the chance, that is what I will be doing — Licensing.

The manufacturer may be more apt to take this approach, as they don’t have to lay out a hefty fee to you up front, PLUS the costs of bringing your idea to market.  In effect, you are sharing the risk with them, while they have all the resources that you may not, including the machinery to produce, market and sell the item.

However, you can do all the work yourself, make the products, patent them, market them, ship them, and generally run all the aspects of the business yourself (or outsource them).  This is perfectly acceptable, and may be just what you are looking for – a manufacturing business.

I read an e-book by a gal who raises chickens.  She and her fiancée came up with an idea for a special chicken waterer.  They purchase the parts and put the waterers together themselves and sell them online.  They work from their farm in the country, and ship all the orders out in the mail.  She says this pays their bills, and then some.  She also authors several blogs and writes books!  She sells them as well.

They got their start with an un-successful home business idea.  Then they struck oil with the chicken waterer, and have built on that concept ever since.  It works for them, and it could work for you, too.  If you choose this route, the advice from this gal in her book is to have a SIMPLE product that you can easily construct at home and market it online.   She said that if the product itself is too complex or hard to construct it may not be suitable for a home-based business.

In my opinion, if it’s too complex, or there are too many moving parts, it may be best to simply license it, or sell the idea outright.

So, this is where you are:

  1. Give God the Glory!
  2. Confess you are an inventor!
  3. Write down your ideas and mail them to yourself!
  4. Go Shopping!  Confirm your idea is marketable!
  5. Make the decision, to sell the idea, license, or become the manufacturer

Witty Inventions Step 1. (Again) or “Will the REAL Step 2 please stand up?”

envelopesI heard a Pastor preach one time that John 1:1 is actually Genesis 1:0.  I’ll let you connect the dots.

In my last post, the first in this series, I stated that STEP 1 is to CONFESS you have an idea…which is sort of true, but when it comes to witty inventions, the first step is the first step.  So, at the risk of being rude, here is Step 1 — again.  The REAL Step 1.

In the beginning, was the IDEA.  The IDEA was without form and darkness covered the IDEA.   The Spirit of God was brooding over the IDEA.   God said, “LET THERE BE AN IDEA!”  And the IDEA was.  And God saw that the IDEA was good.  And God called the IDEA, “(Name of Idea)”.

So, that’s how the witty inventions truly start, with the idea from God.  I heard one time that God IS all the ideas, and that every single idea MAN has ever had came from Him.  This stands to reason, because the Bible says that in Him we live and move and have our being.

Although I had a little fun with the scripture above, in reality, God spoke the idea into creation, just like light.  He is the only One who can create something from NOTHING.  So, all ideas emanate from God.  At least for OUR purposes!  We’re giving God ALL the Glory!  Amen?

Amen.

Now, on to the REAL Step 2 —  MOVING on your idea.  If you are here, with a piece of paper and a writing instrument in your hand (or your laptop open to a word processor!) you are.

That was simple.

Step 3…Ok, back to Step 2.  I was just teasing you.

Moving on your idea is actually THAT.  Take your idea seriously.  Stop procrastinating.  Get moving on turning that idea into reality.  Start looking around.    Look at all the crazy stuff “As Seen On TV”!  Somebody had to think all that stuff up.  Darryl and I were shocked at Walmart to discover an entire aisle of things “As Seen On TV”, right by the cash register!

You may actually GET ideas once you start looking around.  You’ve heard the term, “Necessity is the mother of invention.”  Don’t forget, God fills our every NEED out of HIS riches in Glory by Christ Jesus!  So, start inventing!    Have a need for something?  Let Him fill it – with a brand new way of doing it.

See if your idea is useful, saleable, marketable.  Does it solve a problem?  If it is of the Lord, it probably solves someone’s problem!  What if their problem is merely as simple as a new way to comb their hair, or a unique system for hanging up clothes?  A new piece of luggage?   It doesn’t have to be earth-shattering, but what if it is?  I have heard of an electrician who was given the idea and plans for a piece of ophthalmologic (say THAT three times fast!) equipment.  He funded a major ministry with the proceeds of the sale of the idea.

What if people need and desire change, such as losing weight, or more time with their children?  How many different ways can you think of to help them?  There are as many different ways as there are people, and your ideas will solve a problem for them.

How about those things that the Lord is using to give the desires of the heart?  I can think of LOTS of ways that could happen.

We don’t have to stick with just “useful”.  I mean, look at the “Pet Rock” of the 1970’s.  Or the “Chia Pet”.   Or a great piece of jewelry?  It could be anything.

My inventor friend, who has a patent by the way, started out by inventing a game in the 1970’s.  She became a nurse, and invented several health-care related items.  She invented “The Busy Blanket”, a blanket for Altzheimer patients to keep their hands busy.  It has all kinds of buttons and yarn and zippers on it to keep their hands occupied.  She also invented “The Saddle Seat” for wheelchair bound patients.  This is a foam block shaped similarly to a western saddle to help patients sit upright and stop them from sliding out of the wheelchair.

Her most recent invention is the patented procedure and a special tool she developed for relief from a kind of facial pain called TMJ.  You can find the page for the company she sold (yes, you read that right!) on Facebook at “TMJ Pain Solutions”.  Not plugging her, just her abilities!!  She isn’t involved in this process.  But I know I can trust her advice, on this and on spiritual issues.

Anyway, we’ll go on to that in another blog.  This one is merely to tell you to do one thing:

WRITE DOWN YOUR INVENTIONS and IDEAS and MAIL THEM TO YOURSELF.

I believe you should pray over them, as I did mine.  Print out and put the pages with your ideas from the Lord into some envelopes.  Seal the envelopes with the blood of Jesus.  Mail yourself a copy and most importantly — make a copy before you seal the envelope!!  From experience I know you won’t remember them all.

And for heaven’s sake, DON’T open the envelope when it comes in the mail~!!!

Recap:

Step 1:  Confess your Favor

Step 2:  Write down the inventions and mail them to yourself

Witty Inventions — The Process

brilliant ideas and witty inventions prov. 8:12So, I’m unemployed again.  The mortgage thing wasn’t quite the financial boon I had envisioned, anticipated and frankly EXPECTED.  However, after much prayer (and I admit, “conversations” with the Lord, if you know what I mean!) I realized that my assignment in the financial world is over.  At least that segment of it.

What’s next, Lord?

That was the question I have been asking the Lord for last few days since He helped me shut-down my mortgage business at the end of July.  Sure, I have the occasional phone call from a prospective client, but it’s not my “thing” anymore.  It’s not my motivator, not my goal.  I don’t want to beat a dead horse.

What is next, Lord???  Time after time, every single time I ask the question, my mind keeps coming back to some envelopes I have ferreted away in my Bible…envelopes addressed to myself in my own hand — postmarked 2011.

See, a few years ago, God gave me some (what I thought are) brilliant ideas and witty inventions.  At Darryl’s direction I wrote them down, placed them in envelopes, sealed them  and mailed them to myself.  I never opened them, although I almost opened the first one accidentally!  Darryl said this gives me some kind of copyright or “poor man’s patent”, so to speak.

What I believe is that the Power of God went into action when I wrote down each idea!  I sealed the envelope with the blood of Jesus, and NOW is the allotted time to bring them to light….and to market.

I now have three envelopes, total, but that is not the sum total of the ideas that God has given me.  There are many ideas contained in each envelope.  He hasn’t stopped giving them to me, and I don’t think He will!

And the best news is — I haven’t seen my ideas anywhere yet!

So this is what we’re doing, this is the NEXT BIG THING — I am going to blog the process of bringing the ideas and inventions that the Lord has given me to market —  or selling the idea instead.

And I want YOU to join me and do the same thing!

I am hoping this will bring confidence and encouragement to my Christian brethren that also have ideas and inventions that God has given to steward.  Hopefully we shall learn together and end up celebrating in both this life and the one to come!

.

So, this is the very beginning.  It’s like being an alcoholic — the first step is to admit it!!

If YOU answered “YES” to the poll above, pray OUT LOUD with me!

STEP 1:  CONFESSION.  I am confessing that I HAVE PRODUCTS TO BRING TO MARKET!   Brilliant ideas and witty inventions that God has given me according to Proverbs 8:12 shall make my way prosperous!!  I decree and I declare this is the season of breakthrough!  God is going before me with His BREAKER ANOINTING and making the way clear!  He is smoothing out the rough places, giving me divine appointments and opening doors!  I decree Holy Ghost “set-ups” shall continuously come my way!

In Jesus’ Name I receive the blessing that God has CAUSED to come upon me and my household, giving me the ability to get wealth to confirm His covenant with me and mine.  I release therefore, my financial angels to go and work on my behalf!  I loose all things that bind this purpose from happening, in Jesus’ Name!  I loose myself from fear, from doubt and discouragement!  I loose myself from distraction!  I loose myself from procrastination!  I loose myself from weariness and decree increased energy to perform every task that comes my way!  In Jesus’ Name, I decree LIBERTY!  The captives have been set FREE!  Hallelujah!!!

STEP 2:  MOVE ON IT.  If you answered “YES” to the poll question above, and you believe you have ideas that are marketable, join me in this endeavor!  I will list the steps I am taking to bring my ideas to market, and will be blogging about each step and its outcome — successful or not-so-successful — and what I could have and will do different the next time.  You can, too!

I have no template, no model to follow — just prayer and Holy Ghost promptings!  I DO have an inventor friend who has given me some advice and pointers to date, and we need to use a little common sense, of course!  So, join me as together we undertake the adventure of a lifetime!  If you follow the steps with me, you too could get great wealth to use for Kingdom Purposes!!

Blessings and Prosperity to us all in 2013, the YEAR OF RESTORATION ~

In Jesus’ Name!  Amen.

Prophetic Word – Cleaning Up and Clearing Out

Chametz-CandleProphetic Word, 8/12/13

Exodus 12:11 – 12 – “And you shall eat it thus: (as fully prepared for a journey) your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and you shall eat it in haste. It is the Lord’s Passover.
For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment (proving their helplessness). I am the Lord.”
Gird yourselves with My Word, says the Lord. Belt up with Truth, put the Gospel of Peace on your feet, and hold up the Staff of the Word in your hand, thrust forward as the Sword of Truth, My Spirit. You shall eat in haste those things that I have prepared for you. Good things, and not bad. Acceleration, sayeth the Lord, Acceleration is upon you, imminent. You shall surely eat in haste the good things of the Lord. It is the Lord’s Passover.
For today I am passing through Egypt and smiting all the ungodly gods and things that have held you both captive and distracted from my Truths and My ways…those things are to be smited by the smiter. I am executing judgment against those things. For I am the Lord.
You have spent far too long in the wilderness, my child. Take up your bed and walk. You have gone around this mountain long enough. Taste and see that the Lord is good. I have found you right where I left off, right where I left you. You have not been lost nor forgotten. You have merely been in the wilderness.
Have you not found me this day? Have you not gotten closer to me, drawn close to me according to my word? Yes, you have. And it is all part of my plan.
My plans are for good and not evil, for love and not hate, for peace and not war, not division, not strife. I have come that many should be saved. Yet, they turn away. They are distracted.
I don’t want you to be distracted any more, child. Let me save you from yourself. Let me rescue you and redeem you, as only the Redeemer can. Let me place my sandal upon your foot and clothe you in the finest linens. You are mine.
And We shall journey on together, forever. Husband and wife, you are my bride, as we make our way together. My hand is upon you, my heart is for you. We shall never be apart.
